How do we choose the right equipment for an excavation?

How the right machine is chosen for an excavation: space and access, depth and volume, soil, surroundings and transport.

The right machine for the right job

The biggest excavator is not always the best choice. Choosing the right equipment makes the work safer, cleaner and more efficient. These are the criteria we look at.

Space and access

In yards, narrow plots and spots close to existing buildings, a compact excavator moves flexibly and limits damage around the site. On open sites, a larger machine can be used to its full potential.

Depth and volume

The depth of the excavation and the quantity of soil affect the size of the machine. A utility trench has completely different needs from a basement excavation.

Soil type

Hard or rocky ground may need a more powerful machine or a different attachment. On soft ground, attention is paid to the stability of the machine and the slopes.

What is around

Neighbouring buildings, trees to be kept, overhead cables and underground utilities affect how and with what the work will be done.

Combined with transport

When soil has to be removed, the machine and the trucks must work in sync. Equipment is chosen with this flow in mind as well.

Our advice

Describe your site and, if you can, send photos. We will suggest the equipment that suits your project — not simply whatever happens to be available.
