What needs to be considered before a demolition?

Key steps before a demolition: permits and approvals, utility disconnection, neighbouring structures, access and handling materials.

A demolition starts long before the machine

Demolishing an old house or a storage building may look simple, but proper preparation is what makes it safe and free of surprises. These are the points worth considering.

Permits and approvals

Requirements differ depending on the structure and the case. Your engineer or the competent authority can tell you what is needed before work starts. It is good to have this clarified before the work is scheduled.

Disconnecting utilities

Electricity, water and other services must be disconnected before demolition begins. The owner arranges this with the relevant providers.

Neighbouring structures and roads

When the building is close to other buildings, walls or a road, the sequence of work is planned to protect the surroundings. A site visit before starting is essential.

Building materials

Old structures may contain materials that need special handling. If you have doubts about the materials of the building, discuss them with your engineer before demolition.

Access and removal

How will the machine get in? Where will the truck stand? How will materials be gathered and removed? The answers determine the flow of the work and the cost.

What comes next

Decide in advance what happens to the site afterwards: will it be left clear, need shaping, or be followed by excavation for a new build? That way the work connects without gaps.
